Heel Spur (Calcaneal Spur)

Dealing with Heel Spur?

+THE BASICS
Heel spur is a bony outgrowth from the back or underside of the heel, usually associated with underlying health conditions such as Achilles Tendinitis or Plantar Fasciitis. Heel spur is caused due to strained foot muscles & ligaments; often due to excessive running, wearing shoes with bad heel support, or obesity. Although heel spur does not trigger any noticeable symptoms, it may cause discomfort while walking, running or standing after prolonged rest. It can be diagnosed by an X-ray.
+MANAGING YOUR DAY
Medication, cortisone injections, cold compression, using splints and braces, stretching exercises and treating the associated health issues can help in the management of heel spur. Heel spur surgery may be required in severe cases. Wearing an appropriate shoe with good heel support, using orthotic inserts such as heel lifts (in case of back bony outgrowth) or shoe inserts like silicone elastic insoles and silicone heel cushions for plantar spurs can be beneficial in treating as well as preventing heel spur. Heel socks can reduce your discomfort by effectve compression and retention of body heat. Foot bubble spa can help to relieve stress in your feet and leg muscles. View other products like foot warmer, infrared massagers, hot and cold packs that provide pain relief in your heels and feet, via heat therapy. In case your heel spur is affecting your normal gait, a walking stick will be helpful.
