Struggling with sleep apnea and snoring?

+THE BASICS
Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder where a person stops breathing or takes extremely shallow breaths during sleep. It may lead to a headache, fatigue, cardiac problems, depression and even stroke. Older adults over the age of 40 are at higher risk. Some common symptoms of sleep apnea are sore or dry throat, loud snoring, lethargy during the day, restless sleep, forgetfulness, mood swings, insomnia. It can be diagnosed by a polysomnograph (sleep test).
Snoring refers to a common condition when you face difficulty during sleep to move air freely through your nose and throat. Due to this the surrounding tissues vibrate and produce a loud noise called snoring.
Obesity, GERD, allergies, sinusitis, high blood pressure, family history include some of the risk factors for both sleep apnea and snoring.
+MANAGING YOUR DAY
Maintaining a balanced weight, reducing smoking and drinking, proper sleeping position help in the better management of sleep apnea and snoring. Dental devices, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure mask etc may also aid in sleep apnea treatment. Buckwheat hull pillow and cushion provide a better posture for you during sleep. If you are a light sleeper, using soft foam earplugs during sleep will block all noise and allow you to sleep peacefully. Practising sleep meditation or listening to soothing, soft classical music before sleep is also helpful for sound sleep.
