Incontinence is the involuntary or accidental loss of urine from the bladder (urinary incontinence) or bowel movement from the rectum (fecal incontinence). The common causes of incontinence are diabetes, nerve injury, prostate problems, Parkinson’s disease, physical disability, aging, constipation, diarrhoea, menopause, etc. Incontinence is more prevalent in older adults above 45 years.

Proper medication, change in diet, pelvic floor exercises and anti-incontinence devices help in managing incontinence. Protective bedding like underpads can be helpful during sleep or if your loved one has been advised complete bed rest.
